My Top Ten Andalucia Tourist Sites

I have listed these ten tourist sites, not by the number of visitors but by their proximity to Villa Rocio. All of these great attractions and more, these are within easy reach and make for a great holiday experience. You might say they are my top ten Andalucia tourist attractions.

The Alhambra Palace and Nerja Caves would definitely be there.

In many cases, certain places have many tourist attarctions and spending a night there is a great option. For example; Granada. The Alhambra Palace, Sierra Nevada ski resort, Capilla Real, Albaicín (The Albaicín or Albayzín as it was known under Muslim rule, is a district of Granada, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain) and much more.

Villanueva del Trabuco as a tourist attraction

Trabuco in itself has very little in the way of monuments. There is the village church, some Ermitas (Hermitages; Small buildings that house statues of saints or places of pilgrimage.) and  Los Cien Caños (100 water pipes. Man made feature closer to the village).

The real value of Villanueva del Trabuco to tourists in Andalucia is the close proximity to every top place of interest. Because we are inland, you can drive in any direction to find interesting and historical places. You can do that from the coast, that’s as far south as you can get.

Use Villa Rocio as a base to explore the most interesting and historical area of Spain. Some might even say Europe.

Andalucia and the written word.

Think of all the great novelists, such as Hemingway, Laurie Lee, Gerald Durrell, George Orwell, Orson Welles and many more. You can visit the towns and cities written about in books such as “A Rose For Winter” “Death in the Afternoon” “For Whom the Bell Tolls” and many more.

Close to Villanueva del Trabuco you have Antequera.

This is one of the most historical towns in Europe and even has Dolmens. (Antequera Dolmen of Menga is a megalithic burial mound called a tumulus, a long barrow form of dolmen, dating from the 3rd millennium BCE. It is near Antequera, Málaga, Spain.

It is one of the largest known ancient megalithic structures in Europe.) This has been declared a World Heritage Site. 

Its not all history and religious buildings. For the sporting types, there is plenty to do. Antequera has an 18 hole modern golf course. Trabuco is also a great place for bird watching, mountain biking, hill walking, paragliding and a host of other activities. Horse riding stables are plentiful.

So, even though Villanueva del Trabuco is a small village in the hills of Andalucia, it is also the hub for everything that goes on in Andalucia.
